In transition from design to development and during the implementation of a project, there can sometimes be misunderstandings in relation to functionality or a few things missing in the package. We are continously working on making this transition more effective, so the final results are getting better, and we are getting there faster.
A package delivered for development should always contain the following elements:
Design files
- Original files (Sketch-files, AI file with linked files,INDD package or PSD FILES - PSD or Sketch is the preferred format)
- Screenshots/Jpgs (A rasterized screenshot of the design, so we can see it the way you see it)
Design assets
- Fonts, or links to font files (like google fonts). You also need to sort out font-licencing. Is it allowed to use the font as a webfont? Does it require a specific licence? If we receive fonts which are licenced but no licence is acquired, extra costs may occur.
- Vector elements (like maps and special graphics, profile elements and logos) as separate files. SVG format is preferred.
- If animations is a part of the project, we need storyboards and all parts of the animation as separate images
- Photos in the design as separate jpgs. (Stock and vector photos) - remember there could be special licences on images. All use of licenced images is a responsibility of the designer/client.
Documentation/specification
- A pdf with specified functionality of all sides of the design should always be a part of the package. This is perhaps the most important part of the package as it will ensure the understanding of functionality is correct. The documentation should contain screenshots of all templates/pages of the design, with arrows or attached text to explain functionality. The documentation should be in norwegian or english. English is preferred, but norwegian is also ok. Please look at the pdf files below for good examples made by Giske at gb-design.no.
- Domain details. Which domain should the page be published on? You will recieve a test domain (x.netflexcloud.no) shortly after sending the order, and when the site is ready for launch, we will connect the domain you want the site to point to. Remember to check if it is available, or if you already have it, we need the details on how to change the DNS settings.
Your design needs to cover the following terms
- Accessibility and WCAG
Your designs needs to be tested and approved towards the design part of WCAG (contrast, font sizes, element sizes, hover states, action feedback (form validation etc). Universal accessibility (WCAG2.0 Level AA) is statutory in Norway, and if this is not followed in the designs, it will generate an increase in implementation cost. - Responsive versions
Different agencies have different ways of working. Some deliver desktop designs only, some deliver mobile and desktop, and some deliver designs in all breakpoint sizes. As a designer you should know how responsive design works and how breakpoints work. If you deliver desktop designs only, it may generate increased cost if the designer wants to adjust the mobile and ipad versions after the initial implementation.
You can deliver the package with a dropbox link or other file service via mail.
